Whatever we plate, we generally follow the same three step process…

The quality of the final plate is almost totally down to how clean the piece is at the start. So we first clean and polish the piece to remove all traces of dirt, grease and other contaminants. This is achieved by a combination of hand and chemical cleaning where we may use hydrochloric, hydrofluoric or sulphuric acids.

We then dip the piece to a warm solution apply an electrical current to attract the metal plate. The thickness of the plate is a direct result of the length of time the piece is dipped for. The longer the dip, the thicker the plate. Depending on the type of material and plate, different solutions are used for different materials.

Clearly, the chemicals used in plating are very toxic and as such disposal is heavily regulated. We maintain the highest standards to protect both the environment and the health of our employees.
